This course is designed to provide training to meet the requirements
of the following:
The NFPA 1670 Standard on Operations and Training for Technical Rescue
Incidents at the Technician level for rope rescue.

This course is the third class needed for personnel
wanting to meet the requirements of the NFPA 1670 Standard and the NFPA
1006 Standard at the Technician level for water. This course takes the
student who has completed Swiftwater Rescue Technician Unit 1
(SRTU1) beyond the emphasis of self-rescue and further concentrates
on the victim's rescue. This is done by integrating the SRTU1 techniques
into more difficult technical swiftwater situations.
SRTA is taught over three days with four to six hours of classroom followed
by two and one-half days of hands-on skill development. There is a mock
night river rescue scenario on the second or third evening. This night
problem begins at dark and lasts until its successful conclusion.
Topics covered include preplanning; rescue and recovery management; specific problems which arise with floods; rescue from class IV-VI whitewater; raising/lowering systems; stokes litter management; cliff picket anchors, "A" frames, tripod setups; a night mock Search and Rescue (SAR) problem; and, many other subjects.

if working toward meeting the requirements for the NFPA 1670 Standard
for the areas of water and rope a certificate from a recognized technical
rope rescue program
PLEASE, NOTE!
To meet the NFPA 1670 Standard for the areas of water and rope, a technical
rope rescue course is a prerequisite. Rescue 3 will accept rope certification
from other recognized training programs in place of this course (unless
the student is a candidate for Rescue 3's Instructor Program). Both
a Certificate of Completion and a training record with specific skills
taught and passed must be provided to Rescue 3's Corporate Office before
the substitution can be made. The other course will be evaluated to
assure that it does meet all the requirements laid out for rope at the
Technician level in NFPA 1670. Once this is done a Rescue 3 Certificate
showing that the requirements of the NFPA 1670 for water and rope have
been met can be issued.
